As we celebrate our 12th year in the Alpaca Business, there are so many things and
people we are grateful to have experienced and met along the way! It seems like just
yesterday when our first alpacas arrived and yet it’s almost impossible to remember
our lives without them and the friendships we’ve made on this journey.
Over the last
decade Silvercloud Farm/Jim & Helen Humphreys have been involved in every aspect
of the alpaca business. We’ve sat on the Board of Directors for Pennsylvania Alpaca
Owners Breeders Association (PAOBA) & Mid Atlantic Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association
(MAPACA). We've participated on The Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association sub-committees
(AOBA). We've coordinated the PAOBA Breeders Showcase. Helen became an AOBA certified
halter and fleece judge in 2007. We launched and operated Silver Penn Sales, an auction
management company, and created most of it's marketing pieces and concepts that are
used today. We attended over 30 different alpaca related educational events, and
we’ve conducted seminars for clients. Our herd and especially our herdsires have
garnered national recognition and numerous top awards at some of the most competitive
shows in the country.
It’s safe to say we’ve learned a great deal over the past decade.
The joys of new births, which includes the wonderful addition of two human creatures,
daughter Mia Rae and son Raymond James and the sadness that comes with final goodbyes,
including our much loved Father Ray in 2005. Our quest for the next decade remains
very much the same as the first: To continuously strive to breed and create a better
alpaca, to assist and provide the utmost support for our customers and to continue
to actively support the alpaca community. The alpaca industry has changed a great
deal over the last ten years, but our commitment to the alpacas, our clients and
the industry remain the same.
